After yesterday's news that Steve Jobs won't be speaking at Macworld in January and that this Macworld will be the last one that Apple will attend, rumors started swirling around the Net. NY Times article
What are your thoughts? Is there some underlying meaning to these decisions?
Um in no way is Apples glory days over. I would actually say that this is a mature step for Apple they have simply out grown Mac World. They really should be having their own shows and really to keep unvailing products at mac world and hurrying development just cause mac world is coming up is just ridicolous. Glory days over lol. they have something like 25 billion in cash! They could literally buy DELL with there cash on hand.

I agree with Subfighter Jian, just the amount of cash on hand in an economy like this puts them in a great position to ride it out. It's almost guaranteed that some of the competition will be weeded out over the next 5 years and those who are left will be able to take advantage of the gaps leftover. More market share for Apple!
Besides, the core of their company is that they make good products. I've become a fan in the past year and will continue to buy their products in the future.
As long as jobs is alive or at least a part of the company things will thrive in the world of apple. Mac World is one of those things that jobs took from just another convention to something to look forward to. Jobs has given Apple and the world a bit of CPR. He is a genius who brought us beautifully designed products, and made us want them... badly. As long as Jobs' vision lives in the people he brings to the company, Apple will continue to grow and eventually dominate.

The issue about his health is most probably a complete rumor. And I think his impact on Apple is his vision about people and what people need, then the company executes it.

This does not seem to be concerned with Apples downfall in any way, but we can hope Steve is not retiring slowly. He is the soul of innovative technological development. Check out this article at San Francisco Chronicle where they think this is due to Apples lowered interests in trade shows and many other companies including Adobe are leaving Macworld Expo.
