My Modern Metropolis

So it's nice to know that there are a lot of fellow Gleeks out there! Can't wait for the 2nd season to begin this Tuesday.

Here's another show that I've set on our DVR. Food Revolution. Annie was the first person to tell me about this great show. Jamie Oliver really kicks ass - you can tell he's really, genuinely trying to help transform the way we look at and consume food.

What do you think of the show? Do you watch it?

YES! I love this show. It's amazing what goes on. To me, it's a bit ironic that it's a non-American who's trying to change the way our kids eat first. We need to wake up and take charge of what we're putting in our bodies. Jamie Oliver... thank you!
I watched three episodes last night. Man those people are dumb.
Which people exactly? I only saw part of one episode, so I can't say if it's just another slick reality show '"whitewash" or if it's a real play to change the way kids approach eating properly. Time will tell, I suppose.
I think it is probably a bit of both. I'm not calling the kids dumb it's the parents that have not taught them anything about nutrition. There is an episode where he cooks up what a family eats in a week and it is all corndogs, pizza, burgers, etc. If you don't realize that kind of diet is killing you I don't know what to say. I think there is a very real issue in addressing the crap that is in our kid's school lunches and if this guy can fix that more power to him.
I love Food Revolution. I totally cried when Jamie watching Jamie become so emotional and invested in this cause . I can't believe that some kids didn't know what a tomato was. It really inspires me as a parent to educate my kids on food and to feed them a healthy diet.
I can't say enough about this show. I <3 Jamie Oliver!! He's living proof that one man can bring about change. GO OLIVER!!
I just watched the first episode, kids get pizza and nuggets for breakfast!??? wuuuut??? o_O
Seriously! Only in America. It was telling when he said the poorest kids in South Africa eat better than our kids here. More misplaced values.
I have seen a few episodes & I can understand the concern of the people in the town.

Obviously (like most of America & some of Canada) people have a very poor idea of what health & nutrition are.
I see their concern during the filming because they are worried about how they will be portrayed when the show is done (what we're watching now).

Nonetheless if anything the show is getting people to rethink their eating habits and the way schools run their cafeterias.

I couldn't believe in the last episode how "french fries" were considered a vegetable.
For real though. I still can't get my head around how the school administration considers french fries a vegetable.
I had actually forgotten about this show. My local ABC affiliate didn't like paying the licensing fees so the only show old shows from the 70's and 80's now. I've watched the first 4 episodes and find what he's doing really inspiring.
First of all I love this show, both for the message and for the pure entertainment of the story. The producers and Jamie actually make a compelling and often funny story out of his quest to make this American town eat healthier. The biggest problem is that Jamie has spend almost zero time discussing why his way of eating is better. Sure it has "loads of fresh veggies" and all that, but he has not once explained the health benefits of his recipes, other than saying they are made from scratch. For most people who are eating primarily processed foods I guess anything made from scratch will be better than what they were eating. But why should the rest of us change our way of eating? Of course I agree with what Jamie is doing here and maybe the real education about healthy food would be too boring for good TV.
