She is a cultural phenomenon. But today Oprah Winfrey will announce that she is to bring her television show to an end in 2011, 25 years after its first national broadcast.

NY Times:
"Ms. Winfrey, the billionaire queen of daytime television, is planning to announce on Friday that she will step down from her daily pulpit, “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” in two years in order to concentrate on the forthcoming cable channel that will bear her name.

“The sun will set on the Oprah show as its 25th season draws to a close on Sept. 9, 2011,” Tim Bennett, the president of Ms. Winfrey’s production company, Harpo, said in a letter to her 214 local TV stations on Thursday evening. She will appear on her cable channel, called OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network, in some form. But “The Oprah Winfrey Show” will no longer be."

Facts:
- Her talk show regularly draws seven million viewers, nearly twice as many as the next biggest talk show, “Dr. Phil.

- Ms. Winfrey made clear to her staff members that she will not transfer the show to cable. She is expected to produce new programs for OWN, and will appear occasionally on some of them.

- Ms. Winfrey’s show was at the height of its popularity when she conducted what was at the time called the most-watched interview of all time with the singer Michael Jackson. That prime-time special in 1993 was seen by 62 million people in the United States and almost 100 million people worldwide.

My question to you: Do you think that, in this day and age, there can be another Oprah?

I don't feel that there will ever be another Oprah, not in my life time. That is like saying will there ever be another Michael Jordan. She has been a part of my life since my 20's. I will go through withdrawals, not being able to see her. Who else, helps us to be informed on all the important health information, the latest trends, taking a strong hand against sexual offenders, awesome books, angel network. Life will just not be the same, without her. I think society will go through a Funk, when she is gone. I know I will!!!!

I am devastated that my TivO will not have Oprah shows in 2011. I can only hope that my children can somehow fill the emptiness that will inevitable the void in my life with Oprah. There will never be another Oprah and we may seriously go into a recession with respect to book sales without her.
