Why do you think cuss words are so powerful or offensive?

I can think of a lot more harsh words than cussing but why are these specific words so special? I don't really mind if people cuss around me, and they don't offend me in any way. They are just words and they don't carry weight with me.

I think cuss words are hilarious. They can honestly make a joke or situation so much funnier. A well timed "fvck" can just make something instantly more funny.

Everything is good in moderation though. Unless you have had a couple drinks.
Agree with Mattstas, cuss words can be very effective in getting a point across and also making yourself feel better about a situation. But the key is moderation. Too much and it looses its efficacy.
If someone can't express himself without cussing, he shows his ignorance and lack of consideration for those around him.
I'll either tell him to clean up or I simply leave.
If TV is airing a non-bleeped show, it gets turned off.
A GENTLEMAN certainly doesn't use bad language in front of a lady..If she stands for it, SHE'S not a lady. Would you swear in front of your mother, or grandchild ?
I actually do swear in front of my mother, and she swears in front of me. We are both adults and we respect each other.

But I am curious... what do you yell when you stump your toe?

And do words such as: heck, darn, and crap carry the same weight to you? They are basically just synonyms.
I have some good ones for Mr. Slater:

Dadblame!
Poppycock! (although this one still sounds kinda bad)
Jiminey Cricket!
Heavens To Betsy!
JP Slater can you give me the blueprints to the time machine you have because you must have arrived from another century. To say say that a woman who "stands" for cussing is not a lady is more disrespectful to women than what you were proposing.

And how do you tell people to leave unless they're on your property?
Don't get me wrong It's not to say that I swear in front of children.

Oh, you are missing some of the best shows on television because most incl. swearing.
I fucking agree : )
Words only have the meaning and strength that we give them. Many words that would have started a duel a century ago have almost completely lost their meaning. For example what would you do if called a "scallywag"? To me actions really do speak louder than words.
I wasn't aware that we had to all be in complete agreement with each other to post a comment on Modern Metropolis. I understood we were all nicely diversified in our beliefs, ideals , religion, life styles, etc, and that's what made this site a great learning experience. Was I wrong ?
I'm awfully glad my Banker, Doctor, Nurses, clergy man, etc, don't come out with cussing when they speak with me..
Anyway, I have thick skin and reserve the right to have an opinion.
"God bless us, each and everyone", as Tiny Tim said,
While Thumper said, "if you can't say nuthin' nice, don't say nuthin' at all"
JPs [OAP] That's for Old Age Pensioner.
I won't lie just picturing some of those people swearing kind of made me laugh.

Like if my doctor came in with a chart and said: "I won't lie, this shit is fucked up".
Banker: "Yeah Matthew sorry but you have no fucking money"

Oh and in the deleted scenes of "Bambi" Thumper swears for like 10 minutes.
But really though... I honestly am curious... what do you yell when you stump your toe?

And do words such as: heck, darn, and crap carry the same weight to you? They are basically just synonyms.
