Do you think Home Depot should have fired this guy?

A Florida man says he was fired from his job at Home Depot for wearing an American flag pin that said "One nation under God, indivisible." Trevor Keezer, 20, said he had worn the button ever since he started working at the home improvement retailer 19 months ago. He said it was his way of supporting U.S. troops.

Keezer, whose brother Army Spc. Steven Keezer Jr. is set to return to Iraq in December, said none of his supervisors had anything negative to say about the pin until last month when he began bringing his bible to work, the paper reported. "That's when I was told it had to come off, or I would be sent home," Keezer said. "So they sent me home for six straight days without pay. And then today they terminated me."

Home Depot spokesman Craig Fishel said he could not comment specifically on Keezer's termination but said, “The company’s dress code policy states that we do not allow non-company buttons, regardless of their message or content.” Home Depot has its own sanctioned patriotic pins that employees have the option to wear. Keezer said he opted to wear his own pin instead because none of the company's pins mentioned God. "You can't have country without God," said Keezer.

That said I don't see what the guy did that was wrong. Who really gives a rats ass about a small pin that someone wears? Sometimes corporate dress codes are about stripping the workers of personality and making them just another cog in the machine. This guy expressed himself and a subtle and tasteful way and I think thats fine.; ▶ Reply to This

Sorry, but he gets what he deserves. If you constantly waved your hand in front of a crocodile would it be at fault for biting you? No.

Permalink Reply by DeMario Glemann on October 27, 2009 at 11:14pm: if the company has a policy against wearing other pins then they should have made him take it off from when the guy first started working there. it seems they only really tried to enforce their policy after he brought his bible to work. no one can be discriminated on for carrying a bible. its like if someone got in trouble for carrying harry potter. i think that the company did the right thing by continuously sending him home. that dude was pretty stupid for just going against the rules day after day and i guess had to be fired. i will say that it does look like the company was really mad though just at the signs of a christian though.; ▶ Reply to This
