Two Tea Party favorites defeated more mainstream Republicans in this week's primaries. In Delaware, Christine O'Donnell easily won over nine-time U.S. Rep. Mike Castle in the Senate primary.

Meanwhile, another Tea Party victory came in New York, where Carl Paladino beat Rick Lazio in the primary for governor. Paladino will run against the heavily favored Democrat, Andrew Cuomo.

Although some question the ability of Tea Party candidates to win in the general election, others insist it is one of the most powerful movements in recent American history.

My question to you: Do you think the Tea Party is for real?

I think the Tea Party are great. For one thing they keep me entertained with crazy things they say and their complete lack of understanding of just about everything. Also they are destroying the Republican Party by nominating a bunch of extremists who have little chance of winning general elections anywhere other than the most red of states. I think it's great that idiots, racists and people whose parents are also brother and sister finally have a voice in this country.
While I agree to an extent Kevin, I'd be worried that there are too many others buying into their rhetoric and willing to vote for them just to spite the democrats and Obama that they just might achieve a real powerbase. In that case they will be very dangerous.
I think that their power will be limited to mostly southern, rural and largely white areas where they are almost as bad as the people who hold power now. The upside is that Democrats can use this parade of freaks to slam Republicans across the country.
Couldn't agree with you more Kevin.
The Tea Party is for reals, and really affirms for me that without education, ignorance in our society might really be the majority.
that is my major worry and also the worry of the rest of the world outside the USA. we look on your elections with more than interest due to the influence your nation holds in the rest of the world. to see the tea party growing and getting more than recognition is a frightening prospect and one that seems to be closer to reality with each passing day.
Best button ever!

Why do Republicans end up being so weird?

Ohhh, the tea-bagged... I think they're real delusional.

I will say this, never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
I think they are a breath of fresh air! They DO know what they are talking about and what they are standing up and fighting for. They are hard working Americans just like my family and are only trying to make their voices heard. When any other party does something to this nature they are considered amazing and brilliant when deep down they have no idea what they are even talking about. But for the most part I nor anyone else should judge any party unless they are active members and voters to a party.
No one can judge the Tea Party but its members? That makes no sense at all. Also I have yet to see any member of the Tea Party who seemed to know what they were talking about. For example they complain about taxes yet the majority of Americans are paying less under Obama than they did under Bush. They complain about the size and power of Government yet Bush saw to the largest expansion of Government with the addition of the Department of Homeland Security in modern history and he did away with more civil liberties than any president in modern time. They complain about the deficit but supported the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. No I see the Teabaggers as a group of mostly white people who are scared of a more diverse and tolerant America in which they are forced to compete with smarter and more capable people. Also a black president scares the crap out of them.
They want to extend the tax cuts for the rich, but history has proven, even recently, that when you give tax cuts to the rich they save it. They don't make more jobs. In fact when Clinton was in office, his tax increases caused more spending in that upper 2%.
