The man is a moron and a dangerous one at that. The US (as with most western nations) is not a MonoTheistic Nation and that needs to be recognised. Glen Beck wants Christ and God involved in matters of state, however that smacks of racism against non-Christians. God is not what made America great, the fact that people of all races and ethnicities could go there and achieve something with their lives, for their families and themselves is what made America great. The ideal that you could come and no matter what your background, you could be accepted is what made America great. The fact that the North American Continent has so many natural resouces helped make America great. The fact no major modern war was fought on its shores has helped to make America great. Gods and faith played a role its true, but not to the extent that Beck wants us to believe.
What has changed all that of late is rise of the fanatical neo-con Christian right and their absolute belief in Christianity and their refusal to tolerate those who are not of their faith. The bigotry that these radicals have begun to spread in the US is what is destroying and tearing America in two. Their rise and strength is thanks to people like Glenn Beck and Fox who trumpet the cause of the radical christian right, to the detriment of freedom of speech and freedom to practice religion. Their scaremongering has led to the demonisation of a variety of groups including the islamic faith, environmentalists and social reformists.
Don't get me wrong, its not all the fault of right wing Christians. Many of the arch-liberals are as bad. The Obama songs were ridiculous and the piece with the preacher is foolish in the extreme on the part of those who support the current President. That sort of behaviour does the administration no favours and only serves to further the divide in the US today.
The singing of hymns in school need not be banned, but it should be inclusive, kids of all faiths should be catered for. That would help promote understanding and mutual respect of each other and of all faiths. A religious syllabus in schools that taught kids about all religions would be hugely beneficial, rather than one that refuses to acknowledge faith of any kind. The idea of the 10 commandments outside a courthouse says little for the seperation of church and state. The 10 commandments are only acknowledged in Judaism and Christianity, what of Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and other faiths? Should they not be equally recognised in the justice system of a state that purports to respect all men and faiths?
Laws should be made, dictated and enforced by the state, without recourse to religion. Otherwise your state is no better than that of the Taliban's Afghan regime, where laws were based on an interpretation of scripture and honour killings and stonings commonplace. What America was founded on in the late 18th century was not based on a reliance on God, but on a following of mans moral code (some of which comes through religion obviously) which was derived through philosophy (much of which comes from non christian ancient greece and rome), humanism (much of which was built around a dissatisfaction with the church in the 15th and 16th centuries) and anti-imperialism (which rejected much of the religious symbolism and interpretation used by monarchies to retain power).
Faith is and was important to America, but the bigotry shown by Glenn Beck in refusing to acknowledge other religions is dangerous in the extreme and is what will tear America apart.

Glenn Beck recently praised the new Muse album, "The Resistance," on his radio show saying that Muse are Libertarians living in the U.K. He goes on to say how Muse warns us of a World Government and how the lyrics to "United States of Eurasia" are chilling. Before his show is over, Muse representatives contacted Glenn Beck to have him retract his praise.
Pwned. Yet another reason why Muse is one of my favorite bands.
Glenn Beck will blame anything to get attention. Once I found out that he used to have a Morning Zoo type of program in the past it all started making sense. He's a typical radio hack that found a niche and is exploiting it for all its worth. "News host" is a generous term to use to him. He's a "commentator" which Fox has been brilliant in blurring the line between those distinction. Everyone loves to use the example of McCarthy when talking about fear mongering and exploitation. Glenn Beck maybe a clown, but he's the closest thing to McCarthy. This will only get worst with the godlessness claim with the new atheist movement gains more momentum.
Why do you call it a "rant" Eugene? The whole clip before and after needs to be available here as well. Tell me, when was the last time anyone questioned CNN's "rants?" OMG...like..what's his name talking about "shivers up his leg."
A rant by definition: to speak or declaim extravagantly or violently; talk in a wild or vehement way.
I would also point out that I think that there are people that rant on CNN as well. Rick Sanchez and Jack Cafferty are just two examples. I guess it comes down to who you really believe.
