I love to sleep. Next to eating, it's one of my favorite things to do. I need a minimum of 7 hours, but usually average 8-9 hours.
Too much sleep feels worse than not enough sleep.
I know some people that only get 5-6 hours of sleep a night, definitely not enough for me.
How many hours of sleep do you need?
I probably get 5-6 hours during the week, and a few more on weekends. I tend to be an insomniac when it's convenient, then when I'm totally exhausted I recharge. I should be sleeping right now actually.
i need about 8 hours sleep at least but i tend to snooze all the way to 12hours when i don't have a schedule. if i do have a schedule, i tend to end up having only 6-7 hours of sleep which explains why i snooze so overly. i do agree with you that too much sleep doesn't benefit the body but living a lifestyle when you sleep irregular hours makes you unaware which sleeping option is better: to sleep less, or to sleep more. any opinions?
p.s: thanks for this topic. i'm really interested ;)

I think for my body sleeping more is better. For my mental health, sleeping less is better.
I noticed that after fewer hours of sleeping I'm more sharp and focused than if I had gotten 12 hours of sleep.
I agree. I'm more alert and focused around 7-8 hours of sleep. But sometimes my bed is so comfy and the blanket so nice and warm... sleep more than 8 hours..... I woke up lazy and slow.
At least 6 hours minimum......and I get rather moody if I don't have any sleep at all......I snap at people, sabotage peoples plans, try and take over the world etc etc...
I think it isn't just the amount of sleep but also the quality. I used to get disturbed a lot during my sleep. The dog and the cats would make noise. My wife would wake me up with snoring. My sons and their friends would stay up playing video games. Whatever. A few years ago I decided to start sleeping with ear plugs in. I got some really soft foam ones. At first it felt weird but I quickly got used to them. They block out ALL noise and I sleep really deeply. It has made all the difference in the world for me. That deep, undisturbed sleep lets me wake up completely refreshed and unstressed. I normally sleep about 7 hours a night but because it is so deep and undisturbed it feels like I got 10 hours. Give it a try and you'll be amazed! This is where I get my earplugs (here). They're really cheap for something that can make such a huge difference.
6= tolerable, but anything less and my brain is mush.
7= not ideal, but better than 6
8= ideal and running at maximum efficiency **this is what I usually get 5 days out of the week**
Anything more and I might actually feel more tired and groggy.
I used to be able to run off 6-8 hours of solid sleep and be fine for a FULL day. After being diagnosed with cancer, I immediately needed 8-10 hours a night plus a nap. It was probably the stress beyond anything since it started AS SOON AS I found out. But I'm completely useless without a full 8 hours at minimum. And even with that I'm dragging by the end of the day.
