Is "condom with teeth" a good idea to fend off rapists?

Source: Fox News

South African Dr. Sonnet Ehlers is distributing a condom — called Rape-aXe — for free during the World Cup, in a country with one of the worst rape rates in the world.

The condom is inserted by women like a tampon and its jagged teeth-like hooks inside attach to a man's penis during intercourse. Once it grabs hold, only a doctor can remove it. Ehlers hopes this will help authorities catch offenders.

"It hurts, he cannot pee and walk when it's on," Ehlers said. "If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter... however, it doesn't break the skin, and there's no danger of fluid exposure."

Critics suggest the condom puts women at risk of further violence from men trapped by the device and reminded women of their vulnerability.

Do you think the "condom with teeth" is a good idea to fend off rapists?

It's a good idea in concept, however I think it will definitely increase the risk of further violence against the woman using it. Its unfortunate that an idea like this has to even be invented.
I'm confused. Is the women supposed to have this in at all times?
No just times they think they'll get raped like blind dates and walking in sketchy neighborhoods.

It sounds like I'm being sarcastic but that is what the CNN article says.

I think women should just carry around guns.
i agree..
Maybe but I think according to statistics they would be more likely to shoot someone they know. Not to mention in parts of Africa where rape is very common place guns are cheap and very easy to get and yet the problem still exists. I think you need to look at law enforcement and changing how those societies tolerate rape.
AS a woman, I'd say let them come try to rape and vomit right onto their face
i think that if the man goes this far as to have the "device" attached to his penis, it's already too late, the trauma of rape is already there. It will make the all thing even more traumatic because yes, I also think it will increase risks of further violence. The solution (and unfortunately I don't have it) should exist in a preventing way and not in a "well, it happened anyway so let's try at least to make it painful for the man" way...
