Is photography one of your hobbies?

One of my first pictures (of my dog, Buddy)

I've started my love affair with a camera. Perhaps it's because I've been inspired by so many photographers in my day that I finally decided to pick up Sam's camera.

Is photography one of your hobbies? Or are you a photographer by profession?

What do you enjoy about it...and do you have any tips for people who are just starting out?

Alice, your dog is beautiful. :) I love dogs.
I also love photography, but I'm a total amateur. I couldn't tell you a thing about camera settings so I try stuff out just to see what it does. I've found a lot of helpful information at digital-photography-school.com
Black and white is my favorite because it seems like it strips everything down to bare bones yet at the same time provides more detail.

I'll definitely check out that website you mentioned. Black and white photography is beautiful, I agree - but I'm going to try and get it all right with color first....wish me luck!
