I'm a huge, HUGE fan of Calvin and Hobbes, read him growing up and still read him today. The characters have an uncanny way of making an adult feel like a kid again yet still allows children to relate to the characters as well. Calvin has a wit that has an adult spin but is still very much a kid. His imagination is like that of every child, unrestrained and creative without necessarily being based in reality.
It is by and far my favorite comic because of the depth of the characters and the broad scope of subjects and emotions and unparalleled creativity.
Makes me smile just thinking about it!
Calvin and Hobbes was some of the best reading ever!! The author does a great job covering serious topics through silly characters and hilarious illustrations. The sarcasm and humor is unmatched!
Of course, Calvin & Hobbes RULES! I read it all through middle school, into high school & even college. I just struck a chord in my cynical, trying-to-be-an-optimist-but-failing-miserably heart. Part of me is glad Watterson stopped creating them while it was still at its pinnacle, instead of fading into a bland imitation of itself like so many others. I've got the hardbound collection, and will read them with my nephew when he visits. Gotta have a new generation instilled with a little Spaceman Spiff right?? :D
Plain and simple. Calvin & Hobbes told it like it was & is.
I love Calvin and Hobbes, I started reading it when i was in my late teens and i think older people appreciate it all the more, as (like in the Simpsons) some of the jokes are aimed at the older reader. It is definitely one of the cleverest strips written. I'd read it Doonesbury and Dilbert regularly.
What i loved about calvin and hobbes was that it appealed to me as a child and as an adult. My parents tell me I used to laugh hysterically when reading them. I think its really special when something has different effects on you as you proceed through life.
