i live in the big PA. I think my hometown is great because even if it seems like a shitty day, there's always something or someone around to cheer you up.
well I stay in Sindelfingen by Stuttgart (Germany) which is the place where Mercedes was born and its still so called Mercedes City.

Stuttgart is Automobile City:
-Mercedes Benz Museum
http://www.mercedes-benz-classic.com/content/classic/mpc/mpc_classi...

- Porsche Museum
http://www.porsche.com/uk/aboutporsche/porschemuseum/rollingmuseum/
Ferdinand Porsche was born here - the creator of the VW Beetle, founder of the Porsche car company

- But Stuttgart area is also known for its high-tech industry. Some of its most prominent companies include (besides Daimler AG & Porsche) Celesio, Hewlett-Packard and IBM -- all of whom have their world or German headquarters here.

Stuttgart is the Capitol of Inventors

- Ferdinand von Zeppelin - first controllable rigid airship in the world, later the Zeppelin air ship with Daimler engines
- BOSCH's home (world's largest supplier of automobile components)
- The region currently has Germany's highest density of scientific, academic and research organisations. No other region in Germany registers so many patents and designs as Stuttgart

Whether Hegel, Schiller, Bosch or Daimler (from left to right): a series of famous personalities in very differing connections are bound together with Stuttgart.

- Roland Emmerich - film producer, director and writer (Independence Day,Godzilla, Stargate,The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 etc)

- famous for Cannstatter Volksfest (Beer Festival)

- Food: Schnitzel, Maultaschen, Käsespätzle, Bretzel

and and and...

So are you coming to Stuttgart now? :)
Great reply. I'm sold... I actually wrote about the porsche museum awhile back...
so Eugene if you ever decide to make your way to Europe, make sure you visit these 2 museums :)

here 2 pics from Mercedes when i was there 2 years ago...

BMW Museum is in Munich, there you can also have a production tour..

MB museum--love it
Victoria, Vancouver Island, British Columbia province,, CANADA
It has the four , definite and distinctive SEASONS , with no extremes of temperature.
Right now, for instance, it's exactly zero degrees Centigrade at evening-time, while the rest of the continent is freezing.
East of the ROCKY MOUNTAINS right through to NEWFOUNDLAND on our East coast has temperatures of from minus 45 to minus 10.
We have beautiful mountains to admire or ski upon, lots of fresh drinking water, lakes and rivers all around us,
and , best of all, no one is chasing us down the road with a bomb.
We are spoiled rotten !
JPs
Been there twice and loved it both times!
I love the responses to this question, and am jumping in here as a newbie ;-)
I live in Florence, Italy. It's not really my hometown by birth (i'm from Toronto Canada) but I adopted it 10 years ago. Florence is in the italian region of Tuscany, and this is the greatest place in earth - almost as good as British Columbia it appears, for many of the same reasons:
1) we too have seasons, including a really long pleasant spring (worth leaving Toronto for - they have 2 days of spring and 1 of Fall)
2) we have mountains for snowsports as well as hiking, the mediteranean SEA and sandy beaches, and plenty of rolling green hills
3) we have etruscan and roman history plainly visibile
4) we have major art cities like Florence and Siena, where I regularly breathe in Renaissance art
5) we don't have UT Football, Kevin, but we do have la Fiorentina (aka "Viola"), the soccer team that wears purple, and sometimes wins
6) we're lacking in shnitzel, Diiana, but we have bistecca alla Fiorentina (famous steak with bone) and wonderful pasta dishes (pici with pigeon sauce), and bread soup (pappa al pomodoro) which I'm about to heat up for dinner.
7) and a lot of famous people were born here, like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Leon Battista Alberti... others live here, like Sting and George Clooney.

And so I figure this will increase tourism in Tuscany as everyone here on My Modern Met will be rushing to book their plane tix!
One of my favorite places in the whole world. I especially love the art and the architecture there.
oh i know Alexandra...Italy is beautiful place and they have delicious food...I still need to go to Tuscany. the smallest bars have the most tasteful food in the world, and then the olives and pasta and the good coffee...yummy!!!
Wow..the answers in this thread are incredible. You've all inspired me to jump in.

I was born and raised in Southern California, about an hour drive from Los Angeles. The best thing about LA is the diversity we have here. It really is a melting pot of people from all over the world. Since there are so many different cultures represented, there are many great restaurants around as well.

If you're into clubbing nightlife, Hollywood is pretty wild. If nature is more your thing, the forest, beaches, desert, and mountains are all within an hour drive.

And when that's all done, going to Disneyland with the nieces and nephews is always a blast...
