Jon Stewart devoted half his show last night to the Fox News/Obama "war" sparked either by White House Communication Director Anita Dunn or the cable network's constant attacks on the president, depending on how you see it. The former accused Fox of acting on behalf of the Republican party, the latter accused the president of being Stalin. Apples and oranges.
Fox News Senior Vice President Michael Clemente struck back at the White House after Dunn's remark saying, "It's astounding the White House cannot distinguish between news and opinion programming. It seems self-serving on their part." Fox went on to define its news hours as 9am-4pm & 6-8pm, parameters which exclude Cavuto, O'Reilly, Fox & Friends crew, Glenn Beck, Greta Van Susteren, and Sean Hannity from the news category and leave a bunch of people you've never heard of.
My question to you: Do you think Fox News is a legitimate news channel, or do you think the White House's claim that Fox News acts on behalf of the Republican party is true?
The problem with Fox is that they don't admit to their bias. If they would just come out and say that they are a right wing network things would be fine. They have a right to their opinion and I don't think anyone is saying they should be shut down, which is how they like to present themselves. Fair and Balanced they are not, so just say this and we can all move on.
I don't think it is ok for Fox to have a bias, whether they admit it or else. Journalists should have the integrity to remain impartial and report the facts objectively. Instead Fox is heavily politicised. Of course, the White House is heavily politicised, but this goes without saying.
Okay, Fox has a bias. They're ridiculous. But everyone has a bias... I wonder if we don't notice the bias in the news mediums we prefer because we agree with them? Fox has right to report to the crazy right wingers of the world. And I have the right to make fun of them, and ignore them.
The Fox Right Wing Opinion Channel is a joke. Obama is President of one of the most powerful nations on the planet. He can't spend every day dealing with Jokes!! If Fox is not a mouthpiece for the GOP then why have they so few Dems as their guests/talking heads? They currently employ Karl Rove one of the most duplicitous and conniving individuals ever to grace this earth as a political analyst. Fair and Balanced? Fox are about as fair and as balanced as the Nazi party were with their rivals in Germany in the 1930s.
Having said that, the White House is now engaged in a battle with an information organisation that is part of a huge media empire and therefore he will probably be attacked in all of Murdock's other media outlets. This truly is a fight the White House should not have gotten into. Newscorp can and probably will bury the current administration no matter what it achieves.
