In countries like China or Iran, the government filters the internet and limits what people can see. What do you think about that? Would you be upset if your country started doing that?
Information control is the favorite tool of suppressing any sort of freedom. That sounded more Neo-Conservative than I would have like. The notion that idea's are threatening to an establish power will always be there. These countries establish an idea that the government knows what's best for you in all aspects. Any time that is challenged it's going to squashed. Note Iranian Government's smashing of satellite dishes and attempts to block Twitter. The problem with that thinking now is that technology has surpassed a governments ability to shut down ideas, information, and movements. The only means they have left is inflicting violence upon their people, and in the end it's up to the movement to succeed.
I don't worry about it happening in the United States, disinformation is already an establish tool. With or without the internet.
Hahaha.. yeah
tell me about it ...i live in a country that does this.
Bahrain... they've banned porn.
Its bad enough that the Arabic men over here are creepy because most of the women they are around are covered up.
As soon as they see an expat, for instance myself & a few of my girl friends walking around in jeans and a t-shirt..hair showing..
they go crazy especially on the roads and start beeping.
And now they block porn its just driven them even wilder...
I really don't approve, its your own personal choice on whether to agree or disagree with it but to fully ban it, is quite unfair.
The government over here are really strict with other things too..they stopped school for a whole month because of Swine flu just because one person had it . Most of us are now behind, and it's our last year..
Thanks for sharing your experience. I would also find it difficult to accept if the government censored my internet use. It's interesting to see that there are side-effects in the society and culture.
Why did you move to Bahrain? Where did you move from?
Well.. yeah you're going to be shocked..
I'm from the UK, in Wales but I've lived in Bahrain my whole life..18 years!!
My dad works here and I'm In school over here.
The place was pretty laid back compared to most Muslim countries.
The country is full of expats and people from all over the world... on this tiny Island.. so they were quite laids back before..but now It just seems to be going down hill.
