My dept at work is having a summer party tomorrow & we're having a little contest: see who brings the best bottle of wine--no $ limit, no specifics, just flat out, best tasting wine. Everyone throws $$ in the pot, we all taste each wine, & vote. winner gets all the dough. 2nd place gets the 1st loser award (nothing)
I AM GOING TO WIN
(with Brancott Sauv Blanc or Winter Creek Old Barosa blend)
What would you bring?
If i was in California it would have to be the 2007 Bogle old vine Zinfandel. Not too expensive but wonderful on the pallet.
In South America it would be Chilean, Perez Cruz Carmenere '05.
In Australia the O'leary-Walker Shiraz/Viognier blend.
In NZ i'd have to be biased and go with the vineyard i worked for, a Central Otago Pinot Noir or Riesling from Gibston Valley.
In France it would be a Sancerre or maybe the Ogier Viognier (depending on my mood!) for white, for red i'd have to go with a medium bodied Languedoc region wine, maybe a Fitou or a Minervois.
From Spain lately my Rioja drinking has been mainly coming from the Hazana vineyard. Their rioja reserva is phenomenal.
Finally from Italy it would have to be a Salice Salentino from Puglia or a Sicilian Nero D'Avalo if Red or a Pinot Grigio if white.
Sorry for the length of my answer but, I love wine.
If there are more women, I'd bring a sweet white wine, if more men, I'd bring a rather dry white wine or a long caudalie red wine full of sun and tasting wood.
Do you have a BBQ ? a slight red would be good (the carameliezd and burnt parts of meat take the wine's taste off)Sauvignon Blanc should be nice as apéritif.Never tasted Old Barosa blend , can't tell.
I ended up getting an italian pinot grigio. very nice but didn't win. I would have won for nicest glass bottle if there was such a thing.
redwood chardonnay won. a very expensive bordeaux did not. I think most people spent under $20.
I think if I brought La Crema chardonnay I would have taken it.
