This piece was created to appear within a 'Painting on Household Objects' exhibition in 2011. War and Propaganda are well aquainted bed-fellows. State-controlled western media, bar the internet, often blanket-ban the more gruesome and volatile happenings within the war areana. This piece brings published medical literature freely available on the internet to a new audience (originally within a gallery) and causes the viewer to question the sencerity of what they are seeing on my cooker hob. Do the authors, via the internet (currently a censorship-free vehicle), want the world to be more aware of the use of banned chemical weapons and their side-effects to newly born children in Iraq since the First Gulf War? OR do they belong a more sinister political agenda to lie and manipulate these photos with medical testament for their own more hardened anti-coalition gain? I do not present these images to be fact, NOR do I wish this piece to be seen as an anti-war personal protest. I want to engage the viewer, encourage them to become informed, contemplate and decide for themselves!
