Forget Your Past

The graffiti oh top of the slated entrance says: "Forget you past" and the steps that used to carry the greatest leaders of Eastern Europe are now covered in horse manure. The new generation is taking "fresh" approach to re-building the future of Europe. Unfortunately, they forgot the past only too well. They don't know that the ones who follow this principle will only end up falling into the same traps their fathers fell just a few generations ago.
The complex on Mount Buzludzha – the biggest monument to Communist rule in Bulgaria. Built as a tribune to the Socialist Bulgaria is now left to perish. I can only imagine the labor it took to construct it on the top of the mountain. The official number is: 14 186 000 leva (around 7 000 000 €). Tremendous amount of the Bulgarian army construction troops and volunteer’s effort, let along all those money – all are now deteriorating on top of the mountain. Only wiled horses and random adventure seekers come to visit the place where the biggest communist conferences and events in the region used to be held.
The places is really haunted. You can almost see the crowd on disintegrating tribunes, hear the applauds and cheers to the party leaders… It is grandeur and creepy, but it holds some magnetism never the less.
One can question the quality of art in this place. My humble photos are here to present it to you. The mosaics are highly propagandistic and nostalgic of the old era where the Party took care of everything for you, everything was gold and rosy and the Great Fathers smiled at you off the wall.
