Light Exhibition

Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition

Midwinter signs the beginning of astrological winter on the Northern hemisphere when we celebrate "the Rebirth of the Sun, Light”. In many cultures ancient rituals – like Christmas – are linked to this time of the year.

The unique pieces designed by more than twenty artists of Sterling Gallery, the most well known Hungarian jewellery designers such as Peter Vladimir, the professor of the University of Applied Arts and his ex-students, Fanni Király, Orsolya Kecskés, Krisztina Stomfai, Gyöngyvér Gaál, Attila Norbert Dávid, Noémi Gera and Réka Lőrincz – only to mention a few – were all inspired by Light. All of them are unusual, startling, witty, sometimes provocative, sometimes funny objects that are made of alternative materials and by unique methods. All of them are rather personal, puzzling, enigmatic, passionate, spectacular and have a peculiar interaction with light. When light falls on a piece of jewellery, it dances on its relief, runs straight on its edges, slowly clambers on its curves, softly lies down on its plains, stops on the borders of shadow, sticks in the furrows and gets lost in the ditches.

The traditional Christmas-exhibition of Sterling Gallery will open on 8th December at 6pm in 31. Ráday street. Till 5th January 2012 the audience can also enjoy the art of five foreign masters: Alexander Blank, Lisa Juen, Nora Rochel, Li-Chu Wu and Chao-Hsien Kuo.

The design-jewellery items presented in the exhibition all carry these meanings. One can enjoy their beauty and one can even buy them.
