If there is one woman who's style I admire, for her fearlessness, for her boldness, for her willingness to push limits...it is Kelly Wearstler. You may have seen her as a judge on Bravo's Top Design or you may have seen her work at Santa Monica's Viceroy or Hard Rock's Body English. I came across her book, Modern Glamour, one day when I was at a Barnes &…
So the ladies and I went to Vegas this past weekend and stayed at the highly anticipated THE HOTEL at Mandalay. The concensus is? Don't bother wasting your money here. The place was cool, clean, and chic, but the compliments end here. Upon arrival we spent 20 minutes at the check-in desk trying to fix our screwed up reservations and we walked away without the problem solved or even an apology! Then we get to the room and make a call to housekeeping only to end up connected to the bell-desk. I… Continue

Watch a fireworks show that is choreographed to patriotic music which will be broadcast on FM radio KXLU, 88.9 and will be in sync with the pyrotechnic display. There is no doubt that the Edison is one of the most dynamic bars in all of Southern California. Previously downtown LA's first private power plant, the Edison provides an industrial rich atmosphere in a world class lounge. As you enter and go down the long grand staircase you get the sense of how large Edison really is. The vast space has plenty of seating, two long bars, and 1920's music accompanied by silent film that is projected onto the walls.… Continue
TED is a yearly symposium/contest/meeting of minds/event that is chronicled at the Ted web site http://www.ted.com/index.php/ I have spent many rich and rewarding hours watching the presentations of some incredible people on this site. They aren’t all winners but some have really inspired and moved me. Check a couple out and let me know what you think
P.S. I like the site's design… Continue
(Picture is there bc I like Calvin and Hobbes.) So I am going through an inner struggle. I need to feel motivated to put my portion of the blog on the outside of our very comfortable home. We now have over 200 members. How awesome is that?
I've had to overcome a lot of fear to even have this site. As many of you know it's scary to put yourself out there. There's not only the privacy issue, there's exposing yourself to hundreds if not… Continue
I remember years ago when my friend, Jenn H, would tell me about how much she liked and respected an artist named Common. Though I can't claim to be a fan, I can appreciate honesty and rawness when I see it.
Here's an excerpt from an interview with Common and Elle magazine.
ELLE: What’s the worst thing a woman ever said to you?
COMMON: “I don’t want to be with you anymore and I’m really liking this other dude.”
ELLE:… Continue
Living in Playa Vista and driving on Lincoln Blvd. all the time, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this mellow, low-key bar was so close to home. A little bit nicer than a dive bar, the Garter has a full bar, pool table, an upstairs-rooftop chill area, and an upstairs room with a DJ, two comfortable looking beds and some plush couches. I wouldn't recommend taking a first date here, but it may be the perfect place to hang out with friends and… Continue

I don't claim to an architect buff, but I do appreciate beautifully designed buildings.
John Lautner, an L.A. architect, designed the Chemosphere, an awesome looking house that houses Current TV in LA.
Here's his bio from the… Continue

Back in September 07 my little niece Dani and her mom Grace left Mexico for the US on Visas. They left a relatively cushy life in Mexico City. My sister-in-laws, now, ex-husband is a defense attorney, handling mostly criminal cases in and around Mexico City. The noxious mix of Machismo, arrogance and money made for a very unstable situation at home in recent years. In the end the children suffered. To make matters worse, this guy never fully acknowledged his daughter and pretty much ignored her… Continue
Gourmet Five Year Old Party
At $60 per person, I was hoping that this party, by drinkeatplay would be off the hook. They changed the venue on us last minute so we were thinking - either they had too many people and they needed a bigger space or they didn't get enough people so they had to… Continue
So after Sam and I had some hamburgers on Friday at 25 Degrees, we decided to stroll on over to uWink to check this place out. I walked in - excited about checking out the bar - the first touch screen interactive bar of its kind in the US - but when we asked the hostesses about it, we were given a blank stare. Apparently, they weren't trained on it. (This was the first bad sign). Overall… Continue
