Why God? Why?! Bot flies...

So, there are these things called Bot Flies... Heard of em?

GROSS

The genus Dermatobia contains only one species, D. hominis, the only species of bot fly that attacks humans (in addition to other primates). It is also known as the torsalo. In this species, the fly's eggs are vectored by mosquitoes and muscoid flies; the female Dermatobia captures the mosquito and attaches its eggs to the body of it, then releases it. Either the eggs hatch while the… Continue

Joom Bangkok Cafe: Great "hole-in-the-wall" Thai-Fusion Restaurant: LA

Finally! A restaurant that lives up to the Yelp hype! Joom Cafe doesn't look like much from outside. We actually wondered if we were at the right place once we arrived at the tiny strip-mall. As we walked inside, we were pleasantly surprised at their interior decorating. Very modern..

Sometimes the best food isn't the most expensive and Joom Bangkok Cafe is… Continue

Bar Noir - Maison 140 Hotel: Beverly Hills

Bar Noir is a really small bar inside Maison 140 Hotel in Beverly Hills. The lounge area can fit about 15-20 people max. The interior decoration of this inn-like hotel reminds me of something I would find inside the Viceroy - very modern and chic.

Unlike the Cameo Bar inside the Viceroy, Bar Noir is secluded and intimate. Perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and are looking for privacy. I went there on a… Continue

Ronin Izakaya Bistro - A Japanese Tapas Bar: West Hollywood

I had pretty high expectations when I saw that Ronin Izakaya Bistro in West Hollywood received a 4.5 (out of 5) rating on yelp. The place is pretty small, can fit about 50-60 people max and is decked out with samurai swords and old-school Japanese movies projected on the walls.…

Sam Flores - Paintbrush Samurai

Sam Flores was born in 1975, immersed in the stark beauty of the New Mexico desert. In 1995, he moved to San Francisco. His focal medium is paint on maps, blue prints and canvas. These paintings touch classic themes of "natural beauty," which is in obvious contrast to his life in the urban landscape. The rich flora of his recent work can be compared to the nouveau stylings of Alphonse Mucha. His figures tend to be somewhat anonymous, even masked in… Continue

The Dining Room of Nobel Laureates, Celebrities, and New England Farmers? Where? Henrietta's Table.

Yesterday morning's breakfast. Sam and I had slept really late, around 1:30a and we had to get up the next day to grab breakfast before heading off to the Berkman Center. Now Sam is not a morning person...I have learned (after 13 hard years) that it is better to let a tired man have his coffee before you begin talking to him.

So we wake up around 7:30a and head out to breakfast at… Continue

Urth Caffe- did it live up to the hype?

I heard so many great things about Urth Caffe I had to check it out for myself. Did it live up to all the hype? Absolutely!! This place is really creative in its menu and I love that every item has a healthy twist. They're known for there organic coffee's, but definitely have much more to offer than just an ordinary cup of Joe.
