Saying Goodbye to Summer with Ana Beatriz Barros

Move on over Gisele and Alessandra Ambrosio, 'cause I've got a major girl crush on Ana Beatriz Barros. The Brazilian model, best known for her work with Guess?, Bebe, Victoria's Secret, is a gorgeous vision in this Spring/Summer 09 ad campaign for Accessorize. Now that we've officially moved out of summer and into fall, I thought I'd give you one last beautiful…

Picasso Doodle Up For Sale

This doodle of a horse is believed to have only take Pablo Picasso seconds to do but when it goes on sale October 1 it is expected to sell for more money than some people earn in a year. Duke's auctioneers in Dorset, England expect the piece to sell for around 20,000 pounds. The picture comes with a letter from Picasso's daughter, Maya Widmaier, saying it is authentic. The sketch appeared on a page of a book of photographs featuring Picasso by the… Continue

A Wonderful World in Motion

Though often times we're entranced by photos that are taken at a precise moment, we're also completely in love with photos that capture motion. Usually referred to as motion blur, this effect is achieved by slowing down the shutter speed or employing some…

Toy Soldiers in Paris (Tilt-Shift Video)

What's cool about this video is that it looks completely fake. But these aren't miniature toy soldier models in an animated short. This real-life video captures soldiers parading around Paris, France. Four cameras were used that day, however most of the footage is from two they had on top of a building on the Champs Élysées. The "Toy Effect" comes mostly from the use of tilt-shift lenses. Camera position, frame rate, and lighting conditions play a big role as… Continue

Modern Design: Incandescent Light Bulb Oil Lamp (2 pics)

Sometimes my favorite designs are incredibly simple. In a clever twist of art and design, Brooklyn industrial designer Sergio Silva "transforms a modern object into the very thing it was created to replace."

Using old incandescent light bulbs, non-flammable paraffin wax, and a wick, Silva creates a striking set of oil lamps. Thanks to a strong spherical…
