Our First West Coast Tour

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

I just can't wait to get out on the road again. I grew up on the road, traveling with different musical theater companies, and since then I've been far too stationary than I wish to be...even though LA is my happy home...

I have to remember to take a deep breath before the plunge...Since our EP is coming out this June and we're finally beginning to travel afar to spread the word of jank, life could prove to be much more demanding than I expect. Be… Continue

Kurt Halsey

In his own words, Kurt Halsey's work is "Shy and quiet, yet expressive and charming, my paintings use a sweetness and an innocence to tell the stories of heartache, love, sorrow, regret, confusion, and fear that each of us realistically feels in certain situations. The joy of success and the worry of failing, the humor, quirks, and frustrations of day to day interactions within relationships, and the endless yearning for a story book love are… Continue

Round and Round We Go: Moray McLaren » We Got Time

A lovely music video for Moray McLaren's "we Got Time," created, drawn and colored by director David Wilson.

All the animations seen in this video were created in camera.

Wonder how they did it? Watch the "making of" video here.

"Using both praxinoscopes and the technique of matching up the frame rate of the spinning record to that of the camera, no computer… Continue

Winnie on Swing Flu...

I have friends that won't eat pork because of fear that has been espoused and spread by the media. As it turns out, the H1N1 flu virus is no more virulent or dangerous than the common flu virus. I remember that SARS and the avian flu were supposed to wipe us out. It looks like we're still here. And I still love eating bacon.

Anthropologie Under Water

We love Anthropologie and ethereal underwater photography just as much as the next girl. But is it me, or is this photo (by Barbara Cole for the May catalog) a bit unsettling?

Mime Epidemic? Or Genius Advertising?

"McDonald's has recently launched a new interactive sign where passers-by can interact with images displayed on McDonald's giant LED screen, and visitors can take an interactive role at one of London's most photographed locations."

McDonald's has seemed to pick up on the innate human nature to take "mime" photos (I mean, how many people can resist the urge to take a picture "holding up" the Leaning Tower of Pisa?) Cute idea, I think.

More pictures… Continue

Night Run through the Houston Ship Channel

This is a stunning video of a 600 foot long ship moving through the Houston Ship Channel at night. It was made by Louis Vest ("OneEighteen" on Flikr here). Here's his description "... 2000 still images taken by using a Nikon D700 in the "interval timer" mode. The camera was fastened to an outside rail and set to take a photo every six seconds. Quicktime then assembled the photos into a .mov file that plays back at… Continue

Tavern promises mouthwatering French-/Mediterranean-influenced fare like "the devils chicken with mustard breadcrumbs," "wild mushroom ragout with farro and walnuts," "slow roasted pork shoulder with red cabbage."

Off the Menu

I admit, I never really tried Vietnamese food but Tamarine is a nice introduction to the cuisine without diving into the deep end for anything too funky.

It's an upscale, Vietnamese restaurant catered towards the Western palate, but I did leave feeling like I broadened my horizons, even if but a little.

Angelina Jolie was sitting at the next table and I get the sense…
