A Wonderful World in Motion

Though often times we're entranced by photos that are taken at a precise moment, we're also completely in love with photos that capture motion. Usually referred to as motion blur, this effect is achieved by slowing down the shutter speed or employing some…

Helloooooo Kitty! - Luke Chueh

Toy Soldiers in Paris (Tilt-Shift Video)

What's cool about this video is that it looks completely fake. But these aren't miniature toy soldier models in an animated short. This real-life video captures soldiers parading around Paris, France. Four cameras were used that day, however most of the footage is from two they had on top of a building on the Champs Élysées. The "Toy Effect" comes mostly from the use of tilt-shift lenses. Camera position, frame rate, and lighting conditions play a big role as… Continue

Modern Design: Incandescent Light Bulb Oil Lamp (2 pics)

Sometimes my favorite designs are incredibly simple. In a clever twist of art and design, Brooklyn industrial designer Sergio Silva "transforms a modern object into the very thing it was created to replace."

Using old incandescent light bulbs, non-flammable paraffin wax, and a wick, Silva creates a striking set of oil lamps. Thanks to a strong spherical…

Paul Smith Joins Evian's Designer Bottle Series

If you're one of those people who doesn't believe art and commerce can exist in the same space, you have not seen Evian's designer bottle series! Here, I've lined them all up for you.

Happy Birthday Guinness

Guinness, the drink most closely linked to the concept of Irishness celebrates its 250th Birthday today. Throughout my 32 years on this planet Guinness has played a role in my social life. As a toddler there were photos taken of me trying to drink Guinness from my grandfathers glass. As a young boy i always admired the way a pint of Guinness was created in the pub or from a bottle and the special care and attention it received from the pourer.… Continue

Honda's U3-X is the Human Transportation Device From the Future!

If the unicycle and Segway had a baby, it would look like Honda's new U3-X. With a simple lean, the device moves forward, backward, side-to-side and diagonally. How? The large wheel is actually made up of several small wheels in a series, which can rotate independently. As of right now, the U3-X gets a single hour of battery and weighs under 22 pounds. Top speed on this… Continue

The Value of Life: A TV Ad that Moved Me to Tears

This touching "Melody of Life" commercial for Thai Life Insurance took the Grand Prix for TV submissions at this year's Spike Asia Awards.

Words I've taken to heart from the ad:

"The real value of life is not being rich, celebrated, or living a long time.

Life is about how you value others.

And how others value you."
