Called the "Olympics of Art," the Venice Biennale brings together some of the best contemporary artists from around the world, making it a must-visit art show at least once in a person's lifetime. (In other words, let's add it to the bucket list.) This year, it opened to the public on June 4 and it will run until November 27. The… Continue

Elaborate Costumes at the Carnival of Venice (15 photos)

The annual Carnival of Venice is easily the one of the most elaborate and elegant festivals around the world. Around 30,000 visitors descend onto Venice for each day with many of them wearing ornate, hand painted masks. It's interesting to note that the Carnival started as a way of celebrating and expressing people of all classes. That is why the masks played such an important role. They hid any… Continue

Venice Under Water

Must suck to have water up to the knees. Large parts of Venice were flooded on Monday as heavy rains and strong winds lashed the lagoon city, with sea levels at their highest level in 22 years. Ferry and water taxi services in the city were suspended and Venice's mayor urged people to stay indoors. Tourists and residents struggled to get across the city over raised walkways. The Centro Maree, which forecasts water levels, said sea levels in the Adriatic rose 1.56 meters (5.1 ft) - a level…

Urban HotSpot: The Garter - Venice

Living in Playa Vista and driving on Lincoln Blvd. all the time, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this mellow, low-key bar was so close to home. A little bit nicer than a dive bar, the Garter has a full bar, pool table, an upstairs-rooftop chill area, and an upstairs room with a DJ, two comfortable looking beds and some plush couches. I wouldn't recommend taking a first date here, but it may be the perfect place to hang out with friends and… Continue
