Chicago River Turns Green for St. Patrick's Day

While some cities may offer green beer or bagels to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Chicago takes it up a notch by transforming its river into an emerald stream each year. The Windy City resumed its annual tradition this weekend, which marked the 51st time the Chicago River was dyed green since the ritual's introduction in 1962.

Though the exact formula for the solution remains a Chicago secret, it is an orange dye used to turn the blue waterways into the magnificent green river that…

Moss Table Converts Electricity Through Photosynthesis

Most of us are used to sticking our plugs into electrical outlets, but what if we could use household plants as an alternative power source? Biophotovoltaics believes that this idea is well within our reach and created an innovative concept called the Moss Table. Energy is created through the process of photosynthesis, where electrons are captured through conductive fibers, and…

Can't Stop Singing... (Explicit Language)

CeeLo Green's F*ck You song.

This is just the temporary video until he films the official one, but I quite love the typographic style and karaoke sing a long factor. It's such a happy sounding song despite the lyrics. I especially love the lyric "Guess he's Xbox while I'm… Continue

UNICEF Turns Soldiers Back Into Children

What a creative way to send a serious message. As you may know, the African continent has the world’s highest number of child soldiers. UNICEF extracts many of these children from combat and reintegrate them into society. In order to rally support for this cause, UNICEF sent a package to supporters and potential sponsors. It was a familiar pack of plastic toy soldiers… Continue

Adrian Grenier Hosts Eco-Chic Home Design Show

How do you get me to watch yet another home decorating show (yawn) or pay attention to yet another yakkity yak about eco/green design? By hiring Entourage hottie Adrian Grenier (a.k.a. Aqua Man, Vinnie Chase) to host the TV show, of course.

The Show: Alter Eco

The SiMonster's Next Whip: The E-Ruf (Electric Porsche 911 - from Road & Track)

If you know the SiMonster, you know that I'd like to do my part for the planet, as long as I don't have to drive around in a shapeless, slow-ass tin can. I read a review once where the testers drove a Prius aggressively around a racetrack, resulting in dismal fuel economy of only 8mph. That would be me. I'd use the gas pedal like a toggle switch.

If you know the SiMonster, you also know… Continue

Dubai Carbon Neutral Pyramid will House 1 Million

The Mayans and Egyptians constructed incredible feats of architecture able to weather the test of time, but they had no idea their pyramids would inspire the shape of the latest carbon-neutral super-structure to hit Dubai. Dubai-based environmental design firm Timelinks recently released some eye-catching renderings of the gigantic eco pyramid - aptly named Ziggurat - with plans for its official unveiling scheduled for the Cityscape Dubai event which runs October 6-9 of… Continue

A 450 HP Sports Car That Gets 40 mpg? Too Good to be True?

The Scorpion, built by the Ronn Motor Company, does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of +200 mph, but gets approximately 40 mpg. It does this by using a Hydrogen/Gasoline blend as opposed to a hybrid system which relies on an electric motor. With the hydrogen on demand system, the Scorpion doesn't need the high pressure hydrogen tanks, but instead will use an onboard water… Continue
