Pic of the Day: Full Steam Ahead!



In a shot peeping above the tree line is the steam and smoke from Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. It was taken just before Christmas. With temperatures dipping 10 below, this was one service that wasn’t going to slow down and take a break.



This coal fired power station, located in Cheshire in North West England, came into full operation in 1973.

Designed by Phillips, the Sustainable City Light is an intelligent outdoor lighting system inspired by flowers. The solar powered lights feature five photovoltaic petals that open during the day to collect the sun’s rays, before transforming them into energy.

Give Me Some Sun!: Solar Panels on the Prius

Toyota plans to install solar panels on some its next-generation Prius hybrid cars in 2009, becoming the first major automaker to use solar power for a vehicle, the Nikkei business daily reported on Monday. (Not completely confirmed.)
