Disorienting Spatial Projections

For this trippy installation, artist Peter Koler was inspired by movies such as "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and "Metropolis" where architecture plays an important role in evoking emotions from its viewers. Kogler wanted to change spaces before the viewers' eyes. Using large graphic projections, the walls seem to shift, expand, and move all at once. Quite disorienting, don't you… Continue

Layered Photos Create X-Ray Illusion

Think you're looking at ballpoint pen drawings? Not quite. Artist Max De Esteban has a brilliant new series of photographs entitled "Proposition One." Esteban deconstructs the object he is going to shoot and, layer by layer, he photographs the inner workings. Then he reassembles the objects photographically. This process yields amazing results, giving us an x-ray feel. The… Continue

Radical E-volo Personal Multicopter

How cool would it be to fly off to work like this? While that day may be a few years away, it certainly has gotten a lot closer thanks to a team of German designers, physicists, and programmers. The E-volo mulitcopter is a new prototype design that has just completed its first test flight.

Intricate Charcoal Fingerings

I am in awe of artist Judith Braun's beautiful series of charcoal pieces. Not only are the works elegant but the process she uses to create them is also quite interesting. Instead of using charcoal, as one would use in a pencil or normal piece of vine charcoal, Braun uses her fingers. By dipping her fingertips in charcoal or pastel dust, Braun creates graceful works of art.

This… Continue

China's Dragon-Inspired Eco Bridge

Designed by Taranta Creations, the Eco Bridge concept is a functional and aesthetically pleasing design. Built in the Chongqing mountain area of China, the bridge takes its form from that of a dragon. Connecting the two mountains, the Eco Bridge has a gridded roof that serves to reflect sunlight. While currently in the concept phase, it's a great collaboration of aesthetics and… Continue

Narrow Japanese Home

Situated in Tokyo, Japan, on a small, triangular plot of land, architect Kota Mizuishi has created a beautiful new house for a family of three. House in Horinouchi is top heavy and may look a little bizarre but it's a great example of working within spatial limitations. While seemingly cramped, the Horuinouchi House is a beautifully minimal design.

The top half of the house is clad in steel,… Continue
