In this wicked video from Philips corporation we see a concept of LED tattoos embedded in human skin that come alive when touched. This concept is based on real work done at the University of Pennsylvania. Scientists there are working on silicon-and-silk implantable devices that would act like a LED screen sitting just under the surface of the skin. The images would appear as a tattoo and be fully customizable. The silk substrate onto which the chips are mounted eventua… Continue
This totally cool video covers four semesters of geometry and trig in just over 4 minutes. But that's not what it really is about! Instead it uses the math and the beautiful music to illustrate the emotional relationships between two marbles - one yellow and one blue. The video is by Britta Johnson and th… Continue
The first museum in Italy to be devoted to modern works has finally opened in Rome. The MAXXI formally known as the National Museum of the XXI Century Arts. The facility has been under construction for a while and has not been warmly accepted by Italy's artistic elite. The country of course is home to an… Continue
This incredible dress was made out of 24,000 extremely thin 2mm x 2mm LEDs, thousands of tiny crystals to reflect the light, and enough batteries to power it for an hour. Called the GalaxyDress it is described as the "largest wearable display in the world". It is on display as the center piece of the "Fast Forward: Inventing the Future" exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. The museum commissioned the dress for their permanent collection. Continue
The unusual artwork of David Buckingham is on display at the Packer Schopf gallery in Chicago until November 14th. Buckingham is from LA. He goes out to junkyards and into the desert where he scavenges for metal that he cuts, welds, and recycles into new and far more interesting forms. Here are a few of his p… Continue
This TED video is of Daniel Pink a former speechwriter for Al Gore and now a motivational speaker. He describes why the incentives used in business today do not work for creative tasks and outlines a new methodology that can produce far better results. From my own perspective he is dead on. I am far more motivated by autonomy and purpose than I am by the promise of a once-a-year bonus or raise. Most everyone here at theMet is creative in one way or another so I am very interes… Continue

This is what all advertising should aspire to be! This is a terrific 5 minute video for Johnny Walker scotch. Who would think that we'd actually WANT to watch a 5 minute commercial? This one makes it worthwhile. Shot in one continuous sequence in the hills of Scotland this video is now going viral because it tells a compelling story in an entertaining way. Why can't other companies be this smart? Continue
A new ad campaign by Volkswagen has quickly gone viral. This terrific piece has been emailed, twitted, and linked a bazillion times in the last few days (and look now I'm blogging about it!). Created by ad agency DDB in Stockholm the campaign features entertainment first and product placement second. In fact the only mention of VW in this video comes at the very end. I believe this is the future of good advertising, giving people something truly entertaining and then letting t… Continue

Alice first introduced us to this device in a blog post here. Now a lot more information has come out about this interesting tablet computer. This video shows a great deal more about the interface and uses that the device will support. It looks like a dream machine for anyone involved in creative work. When I was a student I would've killed for something like this. Now as so… Continue
