Washed Away...

Race against the tide: Artist creates intricate masterpieces... that the sea washes away within hours By: Eddie Wrenn When artists see a canvas, most of them want to fill it, even if it's with nothing more than a doodle. But sand artist Andres Amador works with one of the biggest canvases available, with entire lengths of beaches swallowed up by his art. Sadl… Continue

Graf Art... I love it.

finbarr Ever since I used to spend all day in class drawing in the margins of my notebook, I've loved graffiti art. I never really had any talent, however. These guys are amazing. Check out the full 40 image set at http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/05/06/40-stunning-and-creative-Continue

Winnie on Swing Flu...

I have friends that won't eat pork because of fear that has been espoused and spread by the media. As it turns out, the H1N1 flu virus is no more virulent or dangerous than the common flu virus. I remember that SARS and the avian flu were supposed to wipe us out. It looks like we're still here. And I still love eating bacon. Continue

Amazing Cover of the Ben E. King Classic, "Stand By Me."

Playing For Change | Song Around The World "Stand By Me" from Concord Music Group on Vimeo. This cover of Stand By Me was recorded by completely unknown artists in a street virtual studio all around the world. It all started with a base track—vocals and guitar—recorded on the streets of Santa Monica, California, by a street musician called Roger Ridley. The base tra… Continue

Look ma... no hands!

This week, engineer Adam Wilson made global headlines by updating Twitter using his brainwaves. "USING EEG TO SEND TWEET" he explained. Wilson's achievement was actually pretty trivial. He used a system called BCI2000, found in hundreds of laboratories across the globe, that can do the job of a keyboard for any software program. But it was significant precisely because it was tr… Continue

Casette Tapes: Art begets art.

It's strange to me that there are people of the legal drinking age that have never seen a cassette tape before. I remember 8-track. A teacher at my school had one in her Celica that we used to listen to when she'd give me a ride home. They only fit 8 songs per cartridge. Then the cassette tape came along a revolutionized music. For those of you readers who don't know what a cas… Continue

Guilty Pleasures...

Yes, I know it's fake but it's awesome anyway. 1. Fantasy Football Not having a team here in L.A. made it hard to get behind any team. I'm a Raiders fan, but they're so terrible. I really had no motivation to watch any games on TV, so would just get score updates online. Then last year, my friends finally convinced me to join a Fantasy Football league. I totally caught the bug. After drafting my team, I scheduled a lot of my life around watching as many games as possible to s… Continue
