Urban Street Art - Brazilian Graffiti in Manhattan (12 photos)

Residents of Manhattan may have passed by this giant spray-painted mural by Brazilian brothers Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo, who call themselves Os Gêmeos. Filled with a flurry of colors, the epic mural is about 17 feet high, 51 feet long and went up at the northwest corner of Houston Street and the Bowery on July 17th.

While the onslaught of figures and colors is at first overwhelming, a casual left-to-right reading suggests some narrative possibilities. Basically what we have here is a tale of escape and growth that begins in darkness and ends in a stunning vortex of brilliant color. The piece will remain up until March.

I live down the street from this piece, at night with spot lights pointed down at them, beautiful illumination for the Lower East Side.
