Do We Finally Have Flying Sports Cars? Close! It's the Awesome A5 Amphibian.

ICON Aircraft’s new 2-seater light sport airplane (LSA), dubbed the A5, is going to change the way (rich) people travel. At $139,000, the A5 has a 300-mile range, folding wings (so you can store this baby in your garage), and seat belt-like parachutes. It can go up to 120 mph, perfect for a quick jaunt between islands.

The plane is intended for recreational flying and will be available in 2010. That gives you two years to save up your lunch money.

ooooh. very cool! more and more LSA's are being introduced daily, since many of the first are just getting certified by the FAA.

the sport pilot's license is only a few years old, iirc. it was actually just being introduced when i was taking my private pilot's license. the sport license takes about half as much time, and the certification process for LSA's is faster/shorter/cheaper as well.

the sport license has limitations on aircraft max altitude, speed, seats, day flying, etc., but it's still a great way to make general aviation more available to a new class of pilot enthusiasts!

damn. this one looks sexxxxxxaaaaay! the controls of most planes look like somebody cobbled them together at radio shack.

$139,000 ain't too bad for a sleek seaplane.

Also - Hawkes Ocean Technologies produces winged submersibles which enables underwater flight. Their newest production - capable of full ocean depth - was built for the late Steve Fossett to set the ultimate solo dive record for all time (37,000 feet). Too bad he won't make it.

i love the concept. wonder about the safety and the stability/durability seeing how small it is. I want one!
