The US government shutdown has affected the nation over the last two weeks, causing many to be out of work. Additionally, government-funded institutions like the Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo have been forced to remain closed over the duration of this partial standstill. As a result, kids across the nation haven't been able to visit said establishments and Redditor superbonnie caught the powerful shot, above, that shows just how sad it is to see a child looking into a zoo full of animals to discover through closed gates.
The image presents a heartbreaking scene of a small child clad in an adorable outfit resembling a teddy bear clutching onto the gates of the National Zoo, just under a large sign (practically as big as the tiny tot) reading "The Zoo is temporarily closed." After posting the significantly moving picture, one clever Redditor who goes by vinsanity225 decided to present his version of the image as though the government continued its shutdown for 20 years, saying "I just got back from the future. The government's still shutdown."
Dressed in a similar outfit (including a cute, brown hat with ears), the adult man can be seen standing in the same fashion as the kid in the first shot, holding onto the gates as he pines away and yearns to get inside.
