My Modern Metropolis

I will admit something, I get really pissed off when my computer isn't as fast as I am. I will be trying to open up 5 windows at once (Facebook, Typepad, My Modern Met, gmail, and CNN) when something suddenly freezes up or takes about 5 seconds too long to get there. I get pissed. I'm talking blood curdling pissed. Then, everything opens up and I am happy again. Relieved. After about a minute I start laughing bc I know I am being absolutely ridiculous. These are machines!

When did our concept of time change?

When did that blue bar on the computer screen, that tells us how much longer it's going to take a page to load up, both become my best friend and my ultimate nemesis!? Some days I am excited that my internet speed is strong and fast, other times when that blue bar is barely growing I am mad. FURIOUS EVEN!

The internet has made feel as though information could be at our fingertips in seconds. Seconds. Not minutes or hours, seconds. What once took minutes (fax machines) or days (mail or the pony express), now takes us seconds. I can be writing up a forum question and Kara (or Rolando or Victor) will answer it before I even get a chance to read it over myself.

Eugene, Sam and I were sitting around the TV when that Mummy Olympics promo came out. Eugene jumped on his computer trying to find it but it wasn't on YouTube until the next day. He got it at 20 views, it is now at 1,280. He was worried that he wouldn't be able to get it early enough.

Sometimes when I look at a news article about technology I wonder if the information has changed or has become obsolete. I'm talking news article from A WEEK AGO.

It's a crazy time we're living in. A time when information is free and flowing, where we're opening up our lives to others like we've never done before. It's fascinating, it's scary, it's unbelievable.
