Last night, our friend
Theresa celebrated her birthday in K-Town. We headed to Palm Tree LA on Wilshire and New Hampshire for some karaoke and Korean "tapas" (which is actually just easy to eat Korean food). I'd been to this place before, for my friend
Grace L's birthday, and I must say that this place is crazy. No other way to describe it. First, let's get into it with pictures:
The overall decor was pretty busy - a lot of colored neon lights - a little bit of Korean culture mixed with a healthy heaping of Vegas.
Skinny Korean girls manning the front desk (good eye-candy):

The first thing we noticed inside the room (after being blinded by all the laser lights) was the plastic wrapped remote control. I guess they did this for sanitary reasons, so no one would spill drinks on it, funny.

A lot of these pics are crap bc I was using my iPhone but I'm putting them in so you can see the inside of a room. They have 2 tv screens in either side of the room (so that everyone could see the lyrics pretty easily), laser lights, a smoke machine and, of course, tambourines.
This is Sam pouring drinks for Theresa and Tony (btw -
Theresa and
Tony are Met members.)

Stan and Teresa - Stan is Theresa's old b-school buddy. We missed Silvie, Stan's fiancee, hadn't seen her in years...

Made some new friends - Roger and Jessica, we immediately connected after talking about how our couple names were funny. Roger and Jessica "Roger Rabbit' and Alice and Sam "Brady Bunch." Plus Roger went to UCLA. Go Bruins!
I love chandeliers but what was one doing in a karaoke bar? Hmmm. Yeah, not so much on that.

Food was overall good and satisfying - we ordered Korean kimchi fried rice, chichen wings, spaghetti (strange in its sweetness), and calamari. Mostly, you go here to drink and just snack.

I think my favorite part of the night was when Tony started freestyling. He's frickin hilarious. We love Tony.

Overall, a fun time had by all. The place is if not the brightest and craziest karaoke place you'll ever go to, it'll probably also be the cleanest. Expect a little Vegas and you'll be all good. Service is actually really good, they make it a point to walk you to your karaoke room and they come by pretty quickly with food and drinks. Our room was $30 bucks per hour. The larger rooms can be $60 bucks per hour.
Tips?
* This place is hard to find, it's in a big white building actually on New Hampshire - in the Wilshire Galleria - they have valet parking outside
* Find street parking, though, we hear you can't trust those valet guys
* This place is on the 4th floor of that white building
* Bring your ID bc they check before you go in, esp since there is S bar right next door
* Remember the room you are in - you can really get lost in two identical looking hallways
* Hop on over to S Bar after to keep the party going
Who should go?
* People who want to go somewhere fun for a friends birthday party but don't want a seedy karaoke joint
* People with a lot of friends - they have this HUGE room that seats 40
* People who love bright lights
