The Counter - Burger Customization at its Finest: Marina Del Rey

The first time I went to the Counter, I went to the one in Santa Monica with James Murphy. After hearing that The Counter was opening shop in Marina Del Rey, my backyard, I was ecstatic.

The place gets pretty packed at lunch but they seat people pretty quickly.

I ordered an "old school burger" (pictured above) and Annie ordered a bun-less veggie burger on greens.

The sweet potato fries were to die for!

Overall, this burger joint is awesome because everyone has so many options to make the "perfect" burger. Highly recommended!

We not walked, not jogged, but sprinted to this place (yes all the way from OC; at the time the OC location was not yet open) after it scored #15 on GQ's "Top 20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die" List - the only so.cal joint other than Houston's Santa Monica to land the list. We went hungry, liked our burgers (loved the customization aspect) but ultimately was discouraged by the pricey bill.

Thanks for the recommends, A - definitely will check out 25 Degrees and Sapphire - sound yums. According to Yelp Marty's Hamburger Stand (West L.A.) and Outlaws (right in Playa!) also look like great burger joints.

by far one of the best burgers i've had still was the kobe burger at sapphire laguna. great outdoor patio, too.

This sounds like a Starbuck's for burgers.

@Alice - ha...yea since we can't directly reply to someone else's posts in blogs, it seemed like such a great idea... now watch it spread like a fungus... before you know it everyone will be doing it. :)

@Alice - Thats true... A La Carte is sometimes too much. I was going to buy a porsche cayman, the sticker was around $50k but after all of the a la carte add-ons it was $65K... so not worth it...

We went to the one in Irvine after seeing this...I have to say the concept is cool, but my burger fell apart... and by the time I ate half I was full.

Quite honestly, I wanted to like this place but I couldn't. Usually I'm right with my brother on taste but sometimes we're just off.

I like their decor - clean and modern, appreciate the details they put in with the look of their menu but the burger really disappointed me. In one word...it was forgettable. The chicken wasn't anything spectacular, the bun wasn't soft enough for me, and having that many choices actually took away from the whole experience.

Comparing it to 25 Degrees at the Roosevelt I would say the 25 Degrees burger was, by far, better than this burger. They used sirloin meat and the bread was just thick enough. Like Tony says in his Yelp review I would stick with In-N-Out. They stick to exactly what they know and make it right.

If you like blue cheese, that topping is a must and if you're adventuresome, throw in dried cranberries and roasted peppers. Its the best burger for 1,000 miles.
