My Modern Metropolis

Attention all Cho-fans! Margaret Cho -- faghag, former tweaker, alcoholic, eater of her own feelings, ex Quentin Tarantino dater, failed sitcom lead, Korean American, raunchy stand-up genius, and all around funnywoman, will be entertaining once more on her new VH1 reality series, The Cho Show.

If you haven't seen her stuff before, here she is telling a heartwarming story about her dad.

I loved her earlier stuff (I'm the One that I Want; Notorious C.H.O.). Personally I've found her later stuff a bit too full of Lezzie Angst and her latest stuff just plain boring. But all comics lose the funny once they quit drugs and find happiness. I will give my Korean American sistah a chance, hopefully she doesn't gross me out.

The show is described as a "scripted reality sitcom" - so think Kathy Griffin, Living with Lohans, hopefully not as fake and doesn't have as many stunningly retarded lingering close-ups as The Hills - Follow her life and stand-up career blah blah parents, stylists blah blah and -- pay attention NOW -- 3'10" assistant / burlesque queen, Selene Luna (that's her below us) .. blah blah wild ride. In the first episode, she receives the "Korean of the Year" award.

cho is a no for me. i just don't think she's funny. i'm hoping she'll come across likeable and show us that she has some depth, however.

I agree, Cho bugs the sh*t out of me. I saw here first episode and I'm willing to take bets that it won't last more than one season. One word...BORING!!

Cho has made a living off of reinforcing racist stereotypes. I don't find that shit funny. I don't blame her entirely because if she won't do it, there are several Uncle Toms waiting in line behind her who will. Unless she is also the screenwriter then yes I do blame her.
For whatever reason, it is not acceptable to make light of Jewish or homosexual or African-American people, but it's still okay to degrade women and Asians in film and television. Fuck that.

I am glad to see her back with renewed confidence. She is on official Diva status now. Her impression of her mom is funny.. We all make fun and mock our parents/grand parents when they get old..
