His art has appeared in cities around the world. Nobody knows his real name, or even his true background, but many know his work and admire his creations. "Banksy" is a legend in his own right. His street art typically combines graffiti writing with a distinctive stenciling technique and his artworks are often-satirical pieces of art on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. The message is usually anti-war, anti-capitalist and/or anti-establishment. Subjects include animals such as monkeys and rats, policemen, soldiers, children, and the elderly. Asked about his technique, Banksy said "I use whatever it takes. Sometimes that just means drawing a mustache on a girl's face on some billboard, sometimes that means sweating for days over an intricate drawing. Efficiency is the key" Banksy Website

  • Wow, that is amazing. Truly non traditional art. I just wish I could see one of his pieces in person. So cool, so cool.
  • Thanks for opening my eyes up to this artist. After reading more about him on Wikipedia, he sounds like a guy you'd want to kick it in a bar with (and I don't even drink really so that means something).

    Here's a quote from him:
"If you have a statue in the city centre you could go past it every day on your way to school and never even notice it, right. But as soon as someone puts a traffic cone on its head, you've made your own sculpture."
    —Banksy, in The Independent

    I dig that.
