A part of our Sunday afternoon was spent at
Playa Vista's 2008 Summer Concert Series. Basically, once a month from June to Sept, Playa Vista gives the community a free concert in their Concert Park. My sister had told me about these but I was reluctant to go...you know...I pictured lots of dogs, lots of babies, and an annoying band.
Wasn't I pleasantly surprised! Yes, lots of dogs and babies but a decent band!
Bonus: The concert is free....and there is no arguing with free!
Let me show you how it was in pictures.
As we were walking up to the park I was thinking, boy, there are a lot of people out there.

As we approached the park, I was shocked by how many people there actually were. It was the Hollywood Bowl + Disneyland, Playa Vista-style.

As I went up to take pictures of the band, I saw a group of younger 18-30 yr olds and thought...this might be a good place if you're single and looking (not that I am, Sam).

One of the best parts, was the dance floor they had put down so that kids and parents could dance around.
(see first pic)
The band was called Spazmatics - a hilariously cool science nerd 80's pop synth new wave dance show. Playa's website says: If you like 80's music, they are the Go-Gos, Oingo Boingo, Duran Duran, Berlin, Madonna, and Billy Idol rolled into one. I was bopping my head to songs like 'Radio Killed the Video Star' and a few other noticeable 80s songs.

All in all, a really nice way to spend an hour and a half. The whole thing lasted from 5:30p-7p.
Tips: No alcohol allowed (so get creative), bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on and some food to munch on. If you want to get a good spot, get there early. We got there just as the show was starting so sat way in the back.
Who should go? Anyone who wants to enjoy a nice afternoon in the sun with kids or friends. There are 3 left - July, Aug and Sept - with the last one on Sept 21st. You don't necessarily have to be a Playa resident but most are because it's literally at their doorstep.
