A Heartfelt Letter to My Modern Met (12 pics)

As a website publisher, you work in front of a computer screen day after day. You easily lose track of time. You forget to eat. You don't know who exactly is reading through your posts. Each day, you see that tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of people stop by but you're never quite sure who these people (you!) are.

But then, you receive an email like this and it doesn't just make your day..it changes your outlook on life.

Hi Alice,
I wanted to give you some positive feedback about your website. I am addicted and love it! I live in Colorado and have turned several friends on to your site. We went to dinner a few weeks ago and, we all agreed, it is our favorite site on the web (Facebook excluded). We all shared our favorite pics and videos and discussed it for a good 30 minutes.

I am a 4th and 5th grade school teacher at a low income school, most of the kids have never left a 10 mile area, except to go to and from Mexico. I felt like I had to figure out a way to have them see this amazing art. Last week, I started showing a picture each day. I had them write about the photo for five minutes. They are not graded at all and spelling and punctuation do not matter. I just wanted them to be descriptive and creative.

They have been blown away!

They have never seen anything like these photos. They ask questions about them, where they are taken, and how the photographers take these pictures, they beg to see more and more! The kids are transported to the scene, it is just awesome!

Anyway, I can ramble on and on, and I have, to the point that I have two more teachers starting next week.

I just wanted to thank you, and let you know how important your site is!

Best of luck and please keep it coming!!! We need more inspiration in the world!
Marc

I asked Marc if I could share his story and he not only said yes, he said that his "kids would get a kick out of it." He also ended up sending me these photos as well as class pictures of his writing group and homeroom. (I've included the titles of the blog posts Marc took the photos from. You can also click into the images to see the corresponding posts.)

I'm inspired everyday but today especially. Finally, a BIG SHOUT OUT TO MR. BROWN'S CLASS. Keep creativity alive!

That is wonderful that he's exposing the kids to art. It's even better that he's using the site as a tool. It makes you feel like you're doing something right :)

<3 So wonderful. I'm glad that someone out there is bringing art and creativity into the classroom. That's something I feel like is really lacking in small town schools. Kids need art to help stimulate their imagination and creativity for years to come! Thank you and I know this will affect these kids for the rest of their lives :D
