Artist Transforms Rusted Tin Roof Salvaged From Charleston Fire Into American Iconography [Interview]

The United States recently celebrated its 250th anniversary, and Charleston artist Fletcher Williams III is marking the occasion with a new solo exhibition titled 250 Years from Mr. Freedman. Presented in conjunction with the United States’ semiquincentennial, the exhibition centers on a series of sculptural wall reliefs made from the salvaged tin roof of a burned Freedman’s Cottage in Charleston.

Artist Transforms Burned Cars From the LA Fires Into Stained Glass Sculptures

While the LA fires in January 2025 reduced tens of thousands of homes to ash, they also left around 6,000 burned-out cars rusting in driveways across the city. Most were eventually towed away and recycled as scrap, but stained glass artist Ben Tuna (of Glass Cowboy Studio) saw something worth saving. He rescued some of of the charred vehicles and transformed them into works of art.

When Jean-Baptiste Bettencourt left a nearly 37-year career as a senior executive at L’Oréal, he set out to build something entirely new. In 2024, he founded MAG The Women Gallery, the first online gallery dedicated exclusively to women artists, creating a global platform where emerging and established creators can share their work with collectors worldwide. The idea grew from Bettencourt’s own upbringing.

Over 100 Latin American Artists Converge at This Landmark Exhibition in Monterrey, Mexico

In 1977, the Garza family, a powerful business dynasty from northern Mexico, donated The Cornfield (Dry Maizefield), a painting by artist Gerardo Murillo (best known as Dr. Atl) depicting an unequivocally Mexican landscape.
