Airbnb is giving “sleeping with the fishes” a whole new (and very literal) meaning. They've recently collaborated with the French design agency Ubi Bene on an underwater suite that's completely encased in glass and submerged 10 meters deep in water. Its transparent walls offer an immersive, panoramic view of 35 live sharks that are swimming outside. Simply put: this circular room is not for the faint of heart.
The unconventional accommodation is located in the Aquarium de Paris, which is hosting the first-ever sleepovers in their Shark Aquarium through a competition. Three lucky winners (and their companions) will spend the night in the suite, where they'll be welcomed by host Fred Buyle–a record-breaking freediver, underwater photographer, and shark enthusiast. He'll formally introduce guests to their sharp-toothed neighbors and then he and a marine biologist will guide a tour of the aquarium. In addition to the swanky room, the stay will be a valuable opportunity to learn about sharks. The experts will offer a peek into a shark's world, including: how they live; why they're so misunderstood; and their significance within the ocean's ecosystem.
As with all Airbnb rentals, there are several house rules, such as no selfies after dark (sharks are sensitive to light) and don't eat the chum. The aquarium also recommends that guests avoid seeing Jaws before their sleepover–sharks are kinder than we think.
