This is the man who invented the album cover as we know it today. Alex Steinweiss was 23 years old in 1938 when he decided that it would be so nice to have art depicted on the cover of an album sleeve. Before, it used to be nothing more than a sort of large wrapper made out of brown paper. His idea became a huge success. Album sales soared, showing an increase of a staggering %800.

An in-depth story is told in this new book, published by Taschen. The book is all about this pioneer and his great designs. You can leaf through the book! and/or purchase it here.

There will only be 1600 copies. Each book is signed by Steinweiss himself. The first 100 copies also include a serigraph print.
