New York-based artist Alice X. Zhang creates spectacular portraits of pop culture characters in their artistically dazzling worlds. As of late, she has been especially inspired by cinema, recreating scenes with her brilliant aesthetic and color palette. Each image is digitally painted in Photoshop, taking her up to 4 hours per painting.
Zhang's collection of images capture cinematic moments from a wide variety of films, including anything from big budget films (The Dark Knight) and foreign hits (Slumdog Millionaire) to indie cult favorites (Lost in Translation) and artistic classics (In the Mood for Love). Ultimately, they each display a sense of appreciation for movies with a creative flair.
A number of Zhang's cinema-inspired illustrations are currently on display in her solo show titled Moments at Bottleneck Gallery in Brooklyn, New York through June 28, 2013.
