“Hidden Hair Illustration” Trend Reveals Colorful Characters Shaved Underneath Luscious Locks

Hair has become the latest canvas for color and designs, from hidden rainbow hair to shimmering mermaid locks. St. Petersburg-based hair artist Aliya Askarova is adding her own style to the mix, in which she shaves hidden illustrations on the back of her clients' heads. Askarova, who is also the creative director of Image Studio Denis Osipov, begins by shaving the desired image before dying it electric colors to make the image really pop.

While the requested image to be shaved is always decided by the customer, Askarova's wide range of talents have allowed her to design standard animals—whales, cats, and foxes—as well as more bizarre images, like aliens and cartoon characters. The hidden illustration hair style is for those who enjoy keeping little secrets close. The image is painted on like a tattoo, yet hidden under your hair—waiting to be revealed to the world when you're ready to show it.
