Beautifully Blue Frozen Waterfall in Italy

Adventure photographer Kamil Tamiola worked with a professional climber Jeff Mercier to capture these gorgeous shots of a frozen waterfall in Italy. The Cascate di Lillaz, called “one of the most classical climbs in the region,” was beautifully lit up with a blue gel and then shot both at night and during the day. The project, called Cascades of Light, could only be taken with the right gear which included state of the art lighting and both camera and climbing equipment.

The goal of the shoot was to show the structure and topology of the ice fall by lighting it with super powerful flashes. As Kamil stated, “vertical ice formations are something truly special, emanating with great power and provoking deep emotions."

The crew braved extremely low temperatures (daily average -10C / 14F and night average -16C / 3F) to get these stunning shots. Watch the behind-the-scenes video about this awe-inspiring project, here.
