Thought-Provoking Experiment: Free Shelter Pets Are Placed in a Pet Store with a Price Tag

Brazilian animal rights group Accoviaco Quatro Patinhas recently teamed up with an animal-loving pet store to prove that a price tag means nothing when it comes to finding a devoted furry companion. The compassionate store agreed to see if they could get customers to adopt affectionate shelter animals by pretending that they were actually for sale. After replacing all of their pricey pets with animals that were up for adoption, they didn't mention the change to shoppers, testing them to see if they would find the friendly shelter pets more desirable because they appeared to cost money.

As enthusiastic families and curious individuals came into the shop and viewed the adorable pets, they immediately bonded and fell in love. Then, when they approached the cash register and asked to buy their new friend, a sales representative told them that it was free and that they would not take their money. Many were initially suspicious, but they understood what was happening in the end and wound up adopting a lovable animal, giving their new pet a forever home.

Accoviaco Quatro Patinhas filmed the inspiring project and put it up online to show viewers that adopting homeless pets is extraordinarily important. A countless number of shelters across the globe are packed with kind-hearted creatures in need of a home. Although the people who run these shelters love their animals, they are not always able to provide for all of them and end up having to euthanize the many pets that aren't adopted.

Both the uplifting video and story behind it show that shelter pets do not only save adopters money, they can also provide just as much happiness as the pets you see in stores.
