Audrey Kawasaki’s Wooden Tablet for Japan

With the recent natural disasters in Japan, many people are doing what they can to help. Christina Conway, a curator, graphic designer and illustrator from San Diego, California, came up with the genius idea to organize an art auction with the proceeds going to the recovery of Japan. She asked artists to paint on an ema – a small wooden tablet left at Japanese shrines with an image on one side and a handwritten wish or prayer on the other. Some artists participating are Edwin Ushiro, Stella Im Hultberg and Ken Garduno.

The one featured here was created by Met favorite, Audrey Kawasaki. At the current time, her piece is dwarfing everyone else's at a current bid of $1,580.99. Audrey's auction ends on April 12. You can bid, here.
