Artists Pay Tribute to The Avengers

Chances are that you or someone you know went to see Joss Whedon's The Avengers movie this past weekend. According to studio estimates, the blockbuster earned an incredible $200.3 million domestically, making it the biggest movie debut of all time! In fact, Hollywood Reporter states that the pic has made a worldwide total of $641.8 million. The Disney/Marvel flick also scored the biggest Saturday gross of all time, earning $69.7 million. Talk about shattering box office records! “It's been a fantastic weekend on every single front,” Disney Executive VP for Distribution Dave Hollis said.

In Los Angeles, Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures “assembled” a team of their own as Gallery 1988 brought together artists for an Avengers inspired art show. From May 3rd to May 6th, the gallery's newest location, in Melrose, become Avengers' central. Paintings, posters and limited-edition prints by 30 pop-culture artists including Dave Perillo, Scott Campbell, and Luke Chueh were displayed to celebrate the the U.S. opening of the movie. While many items have now sold out, you can still buy some fantastic pieces on Gallery 1988's website. Here are some of our favorites.
