Balloon-Filled Room Simulates Sunset


If you enjoy surreal experiences, make sure to drop by Pomona College Museum of Art for the “It Happened at Pomona” exhibit going on now till November 6, 2011. It's there that you'll find a beautiful, glowing red room. Situational Construction, a recreation of artist Lloyd Hamrol's 1969 installation, is a room that has a small window where the viewer can gaze through and see balloons taking over the ceiling. With the floor covered in still black water, it reflects the round shapes of the balloons, simulating a sunset over the sea. With hanging rods of wire that look like falling rain, one can't help but be swept away…
