Some of you might know Zana Briski's work through Born into Brothels: Calcuttas Red Light Kids, which was the winner of the 77th annual Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The work both Zana Brinski and Ross Kauffman undertook really inspires anyone interested in documentary photography to look deeper into their stories and involve themselves more with their subjects.

Brinski uses photography to tell the story of the children and the conditions where they grew up. By teaching them how to use a camera, she also empowers the children to express themselves to the world.

I feel that some of her work taken during the production of the documentary has been overlooked and I wanted to put a spotlight on the still photographs that she took during her stay in Calcutta. The images portray dark, moody scenes of crowded areas and tight spaces where children play and prostitutes work.
